Your foolish pedestal you place Yourself onto and face The world in its vast space. Before the mirror you paced Then cowed and shied away Because you couldn't stand the gaze Of yourself, whom you hate. Your apathy weaved a maze That blinded your way As you stupidly strayed With confidence in your gait. Such indifference you claim As a mask to hide and prey On those you expected to obey. Yet faced with disarray, You bowed your head disgraced, Cowardly making your escape, Panicked and afraid. Where's the bravado you displayed? Where's your decadence and grace? So absorbed in selfish and vain With your ego unstably contained That your pride caused your decay Until you realized too late That everything was set ablaze. So quick to place your faith While ignorant to their disdain. So easily shaken by blame, Constructed with mere words of dismay. Fumbled you did and swayed, As into the night you replayed Every comment and phrase Carved into your heart like blades. Those muses you pondered at ballet, Of how you could easily isolate Away from the tables laid. So strong, so wise, so unafraid. These lies you fed your airway To choke you to your grave.
