Fever Dream
by Ameanie
Summer heat sinks into my skin the lights crawling through pavement Gasping for breath under glaring heaven relief found in numbing ice
Dark alleys wafting with smoke chokes my throat and grips my mind Safety found in the tinkling chimes disappointment found in soiled cups
Where are the thrills of the stage when I’m trying to forget my fatigue How can they dance like it’s a need happiness found within themselves
Silence rings after the crowds wasting away while waiting for fall Taking a break away from those halls peace found immersed in cubes
Pleasurable displeasure guilty of thought quiet struggles back and forth sanity slipping while questioning worth hollowness found in the stillness
